Questions for the Yes on 8ers
Questions for people who believe that "redefining marriage" would be morally wrong, since it has been the same for "thousands of years."
1. Is it "one man, one woman" or is it "one man, many women?" Seriously. I'm being serious.
2. What about the shellfish thing? Should we go back to the ixnay on the eafoodsay? I know it changed in the New Testament but you've got to admit it was pretty silly.
3. If everything is supposed to stay the way it had always been, when are we going to have the sanctity of slavery back?
4. We didn't have much means of transportation five thousands years ago, or any other technological advances for that matter. Is this going to be a categorical step back to archaic times or is it just the hubby wifey thing?
5. If what gay people do "in their bedrooms," is fine with you, why is it not fine with you what they do elsewhere?
6. How do you explain God's creating everyone the way they are if he also believed they should have different rights? What was his purpose for making some people gay if he believed they were not worthy of the same free will as everyone else? Why didn't he just make them a puppy or a tree?
7. Do you think that, given the abundance of people still in the closet even in 2008, it may have been possible that when the Bible was written, the rights of homosexual humans versus heterosexual humans wasn't a major topic of discussion? And therefore, perhaps the absence of such subject matter does not automatically signify that it is ethically wrong?

9. Everyone thought the Earth was flat until it was proven otherwise. Are we also mandated to continue those beliefs?
10. Do nine-hundred year old men still exist?
11. Jesus was a carpenter a long time ago, too. When should I expect him to help me with my roof?
12. Let's be honest with each other. Honest. It's a simple concept. What are you really afraid of? Because that's what this is about, right? The fear of something different. All of a sudden your life may change when you have to observe more and more gay people in the streets. Think about it. Unless you drop the soap, is it REALLY that bad?
13. How do you justify actually paying money to deny anyone an inalienable right when there are starving people all over the world? We need disease research. We need to find a better source of energy and that takes money. We need to rehabilitate people who have fallen ill, had accidents and lost their jobs, etc. How does money being spent on this instead better the world? Do you care?
14. When, in the history of the world, has it ever gone smoothly when basic civil liberties have been denied to anyone? Remember MLK? Remember Malcom X? Remember Stonewall? Did you think this would shut anyone up and put them in their place? On a related note, how do you feel about the overwhelmingly negative image this has given extreme religion, more importantly, the dialog that has now been struck all over the world regarding the fact that this is wrong? Backfire much?
15. Has it ever crossed your mind that in reality, it is ironic that it is the utmost religious zealot who will rot in hell? The gays will just go to heaven and help spruce up the place. Maybe frolic around. I'm just saying.
16. Have you ever pondered the fact that more people in the history of the world have died in the name of religion than anything else? Don't you think it's time for intolerance to die down?

1.One man, one woman. Don't know what this question has to do with anything, though.

3. You seem to have /some/ knowledge of the NT. Slavery is also something that is lots different than it was in Bible times. And, after 7 years, slaves were to be set free and given their own land and such. Also, the idea of 'slavery' was WAYYY different from what we have as 'slaves' now. Slaves were meant to be treated like family, not animals. You can look that up in Leviticus.

5. What they do 'in their bedrooms' isn't okay with me. I can't change it, of course, but that doesn't mean I'm okay with it. (Let me say something however. I don't hate gay people.) Never have and never will. Hate is not part of God's plan. The act, the mentality, the sin is what is to be hated. NOT THE PERSON. So-called believers who lead a life of hate need to read the Bible as well. 1 John 4 in particular.
6.God created everything perfect. However, with the fall of man, sin was allowed into the world. Hence why disease, strife, pain, and... sin. In general. That stuff is not of God, but of our own sin nature and God giving us choice. He didn't create puppets. He gave us leeway to choose whatever we want and however we want to live. Whether or not we choose to live according to His standard is up to us...
7....Uh. I don't really understand the question, but the Bible does mention homosexuality. A few times in fact. The two that stand out is "man shall not lie with another man as with a woman" and the account of Sodom and Gomorrah when the men of the city asked Lot to send out his guests (which were really angels of the Lord) to have sex with them. And Lot, the twisted weirdo that he was, asked them if they'd rather have his daughters instead. (They said no.)

10. Nope. But that's another side effect of sin running amok. No one can live forever in this body anymore. So life span had to get shorter and shorter.
11. Well, considering He's Creator of the Universe and creator of you, too... and He gave you working hands and mouth and eloquence... I'm supposing you should use those hands to pick up a phone and dial a carpenter and use that mouth to ask THEM to help you with your roof. Not Jesus.
12. ....This is not a matter of fear. It's a matter of right and wrong. My Lord says that He created His creation with an intent of man and woman fitting together. A woman's vagina was made to fit around a man's penis. She lubricates herself naturally, when the time is right. Her body was made to complement the man. An anus of another man was not where the Lord made for penis's to fit. I understand it causes the same amount of pleasure as normal sex... okay, sure. I understand that it's a matter of love. Sure. But that love is wrongly based. It's not something easy and it's not something readily explained.. it's a heart and mind issue. When a sinner is born, they are born to sin. And a desire for the same sex is just that. Sin. An equal sin to lying and cheating and stealing and hating someone in your heart. Plain and simple. No fear here. Just truth. (Also, the 'drop the soap' thing was just offensive. I'm surprised at you.)

14. There's no way that this is a problem that will ever be remedied in this lifetime, I know. And of course, as a black female, I understand the need for groups to be outspoken against injustice. However I cannot just lay down and not speak my mind on what I know is truth and what I know is wrong. I can't change it, of course... and it definitely causes a rift between me and loved ones when the topic comes up... but it's not anything I'm called to shut up about. Nope.
15. Well, I'd like to know where you're pulling that from... Heaven and hell have nothing to do with whether you're gay or not. They have to do with whether or not you've surrendered your life completely and fully to Jesus Christ and accepting His atonement for sin. Meaning, saying, basically "I can't fix myself, only Christ can" and that, of course, only comes from a humbled heart that desires to see truth. Not whether or not you're gay.
