Which is Worse?
Sugar or HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup)...
here's my assessment:
• BOTH, Sugar (sucrose) AND high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contain similar amounts of FRUCTOSE (about 50% -- the other half is glucose)...
• FRUCTOSE was found to be the "bad" element (from studies on sucrose, which showed organ damage results) -- in COPPER-DEFICIENT diets (in male rats anyway)...
• So...Consume more COPPER...
- most nuts
(especially brazils & cashews)
- seeds
(especially poppy and sunflower)
- chickpeas
- oysters (yum!)
- liver (double-yum!)
- may get some from the water supply due to copper pipes
(though water filters probably removed it)
- otherwise, Supplements
Natural foods such as cereals, meat and fish generally contain sufficient copper to provide up to 50% of the required copper intake in a balanced diet.
(more about copper: <a href="http://www.copper.org/consumers/health/papers/cu_health_uk/cu_health_uk.html">Copper in Human Health</a>)
THE PROBLEM ISN'T "HFCS" -- THE PROBLEM IS THE INCREASE OF ALL KINDS OF SUGAR IN OUR FOODS & KNOWING HOW TO COUNTERACT ITS NEGATIVE EFFECTS...
Just make sure you have enough copper in your diet to counter any ill effects of fructose in your diet!
